The Big Read

I've copied this from a friend's blog, and added my own info to the list.

******
The Big Read was a 2003 survey carried out by the BBC, with the goal of finding the "Nation's Best-loved Book" by way of a viewer vote via the Web, SMS, and telephone.

The Big Read figures that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books. How do you stack up?

How to Play:
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own blog so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them

my little marin

I've realized being at home with another person is great, even though I find myself forgetting that the other person is not someone I can go play tennis with, have a two-way conversation with in english, or leave unattended. I find myself thinking of fun stuff to do throughout the day, only to remember that the other person with me isn't Bo. I'm used to being around him all the time and that's been the case for about the last four years. But I feel like I'm around someone that I could go do lots of stuff with!

I just realized this today, which astounds me, because this means that I consider Marin her own little person. I mean, beyond the fact that she obviously is her own person. But we interact, she understands a lot of what I say to her (this I know because she obeys me most of the time- even if it's just "dance! dance!") and she's a great little person to be around all day long. :)

This is a picture of Marin with my dad and our Slovak friend Janka who were both visiting last week.

normal, shnormal

I guess we'd be considered settled back in Chattanooga, but things still don't feel normal. I think I need to change my definition of normal, and accept this as my new normal, a phrase I'm blatantly stealing from a friend at church. It's really helpful to think of how things are right now as normal, even though it is a different normal than I'm used to.

I find just telling myself that this is my normal life now helps me to stop putting off things that need to get done once things "settle down" (totally a relative term). There are so many things I just assumed would be easier to do once we were back in the States, like find moms' groups, go to bible studies, hang out with friends...while forgetting that I have a small daughter who likes schedules, regularity, and sleeping! And as she is obviously my first priority, I'm trying to find a good balance of making sure she's got a semi-regular schedule everyday and doing fun things that get me out of the house (even if it's just walking with her exploring the neighborhood).

One thing I'm very thankful for now is that she will actually sleep in her carseat and take a full nap in there! Woohoo! She's so stimulated by everything and everyone around her, it has taken over a month in her new carseat since we've been back to just conk out in the car. It also helps, I'm sure, that I finally have a car that has heavily tinted windows.

We're Back!!!!

We're back...in more ways than one. We are successfully replanted into our American roots and are in the continual process of establishing more, which still feels very wrong to me (accumulation of stuff= bad for an itinerating missionary!). But as we are no longer itinerating or official missionaries, accumulate we do.

And I am resuscitating this blog, which we have been so delinquent about updating! Sorry!

Since being back, we have spent a wonderful week with Bo's family in Florida, a wonderful week with my family in Florida, and a month and a half back on the mountain, during which we've enjoyed a weekend visit from Bo's mom and grandma, the good company of many friends, sharing a lovely home with my aunt (who Marin adores and vice versa!), and a weekend visit from my uncle and aunt! It's been a busy couple of months.

Bo starts his job on Monday at a bank and I will stay at home with Marin and do fun mom and baby things (I hope) and enjoy the beautiful amazing spring that has started to bloom! We are going to visit Bo's family this weekend as they pack up his little sister's things at her college in south Georgia.

Culture shock hasn't been too bad this time around. God has provided lavishly for our needs and our comforts, for which we are very thankful, though we would still be thankful without them! I've realized one of the main things God has taught in the past few years is that nothing can satisfy me or comfort me like the knowledge and the reality that I need nothing else beside Christ! This is the most freeing thing I have ever experienced although that seems so backward to our human minds.

We are so thankful for everyone who supported us through prayers and finances. We are really enjoying catching up with people and getting involved in our church again.

Here's a recent picture of Marin for anyone who hasn't seen her lately (although I don't think anybody really reads this anymore besides my dear family- hi mom!), but you all like Marin pictures as much as I'll give them, so here's a few more.

Marin's first week of food

Marin started just over week ago on bananas (which she loved) and then rice cereal (which she did not love), and now has the two mixed together (which she's pretty happy with).
Here's the proof:
